Havanese dogs are one of the members of the Bichon family. These little dogs have a common ancestor - the Poodle. They are very small, and serve mainly as companions and watchdogs. Bichons have a long coat that comes in different structures and colors. They are always alert and friendly. Bichon dogs make wonderful pets, and are recommended for families with children.

The Havanese dog is a worthy member of the Bichon family. The breed is very intelligent, and has a tendency to learn tricks very rapidly. They are playful, and they do well with children, canine, and non-canine pets. Though some dogs may bark a lot, they can be taught not to do so. Training should begin at an early age. The Havenese dog has a long silky coat that can be either wavy, or curly. The dog is double-coated, which protects it from extreme temperatures. Both the undercoat and outer coat are soft in texture. The coat is never woolly. It is light and comes in a variety of colors. According to the standard, the Havanese dog may come in any color. No preference is given to a particular color pattern.

Though bred for being a companion, the Havanese dog is never too fragile, and it is a fit for families with small children. It has strong long legs. The body is slightly longer than it is tall. The tail is carried over the back.
Havanese - Living Conditions
Havanese dogs are suited best for apartment living. These small dogs do not need a lot of space. They have average exercise needs. Havanese dogs are fairly active indoors; yet they need a few walks a day.
